At UTSoC, we understand that as communications students we each have a unique voice and agency, and with that brings the responsibility to serve those around us. We are passionate about working with our members to bring justice to situations that we have the power to change, and awareness of those we may not.
We aim to build upon our existing relationships, and connect with departments and organisations both within UTS and in the wider Sydney community. We do this through organising volunteering opportunities, establishing new Social Justice initiatives, and working within existing frameworks and projects.
Last year, we collaborated with Food Society to put together ‘Food For Thought Day’, where students met with student services to start a conversation about mental heath in exchange for a sausage sizzle and a donut. Notably, UTSoC Social Justice also spearheaded a campaign to combat racism on campus, and received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the initiative. ‘Racism. It Stops with Me’ was our first awareness movement, and we will be bringing similar concepts to the table in 2018.
