By Lauren Hunt

Metal beams entrap me

Enfold me

Surround me

I am translucent

Transparent and never seen

They see through me with absolute clarity

Taken on and off

Placed in the darkest of places

Hidden from the world without an identity

Yet who am I?

Behind these bars

A voiceless entity

Am I lost from the world's empathy?

Give me a voice the world can hear

A relief from the metallic taste I fear

Give me someone who will listen

I have many stories

I'll make it a mission

Hold me close and never let go

The memory of all these lost souls

A broken home

A broken body

How much more must be broken?

Before you grow a heart
