The best cinematic balls of all time
Tayla Curry shares the best ball scenes that Hollywood has to offer, which will have you dancing, dressed and ready before you can even say Love In Fair Verona.
Ever wanted to look like Hermione Granger did when she went to Yule Ball with Krum in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire? What about when Bella sways with Edward under the gazebo in Twilight? Or, is it your dream to be one of the kids from Rydell High doing the hand jive (yes, I’m talking about Grease)?
Luckily, your opportunity is fast approaching. On Friday 12 October, the most-awaited event of the year will be here; UTSoC’s 2018 Ball! It’s finally your time to shine. So grab your friends, get chatting to your crush, or start swiping right on Tinder, because it is time to fall in Love In Fair Verona with all your favourite people.
And if you’re not sure where to find your inspiration, or how to get into the mood, here are just a few favourite film that will get you ready for a night to remember.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Unleash your inner Neville Longbottom and dance the night away. Will you be a slow waltzer like Hagrid? A head-turner like Hermione? Or the one that got stuck with the last-minute date like Harry and Ron? Either way, you’ll have a story to tell!
If you can take anything from the Twilight prom scene at the end of the first movie, it is owning your own style. That’s not to say you should rock up in converse sneakers like Bella, but also, why not? Style your outfit to be a little more you.
Own the dance floor with your closest friends, bringing out moves like the old-school hand jive, the moonwalk, the spongebob, and of course, the shuffle. The night is yours for the taking!
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
What a ball to remember that was. Despite the way the night ended, when Patrick Verona organised for Kat’s favourite band to perform, we were all left seeking that kind of love. His name in particular seems quite fitting for the event too, doesn’t it?
High School Musical: Senior Year (2008)
If you’re not getting ready for UTSoC’s 2018 ball the way the East High kids did, you’re doing it wrong. Grab your friends and go for a shopping spree - you are going to want to be looking your best come 12 October.
